Design Sprint

Four days to take a big challenge from first question to a tested prototype, before you spend months building the wrong thing.

When to use it

  • When you need to solve a big challenge quickly
  • When you need to create a new product or service, or improve an existing one
  • When cross-functional teams struggle to align their work with the business goals
  • When the goals keep getting unclear because the scope keeps changing
  • When there is no real data for decisions and the discussions never end
  • When the team is told to “innovate” but does not know where to start

How the four days run

One challenge, one team, one clear path from question to answer. The detail is adjusted to your situation.

Day 1

Understand and focus

Agree on the long-term goal, map the challenge and pick the part to tackle first.

Day 2

Sketch and decide

Everyone sketches their own solutions. The group weighs them and decides what to build.

Day 3

Prototype

The team builds a realistic prototype, just good enough to learn from.

Day 4

Test

Real users try it while the team watches and learns what works and what does not.

What you leave with

  • A tested prototype and real feedback from real users
  • Data to decide on, so the discussions can end
  • A team that agrees on the goal and on what to build, or drop

Good to know. A Design Sprint takes more preparation than the other workshops, including lining up real users for day 4, and I am trained in the method (Design Sprint Masterclass, 2023). Fixed scope and a fixed price, offered on request. Not sure it is the right size? Start with a Lightning Decision Jam.
